Beecroft   Deadline: March 15, 2014

Overview:

**NOTE: This scholarship has been spent for the Fall 2014 and Winter 2015 semesters. Please return here to apply in January when the application is open again.

A scholarship for students at the senior class status (90 credit hours or more) in the College of Humanities.

Requirements:
  • Have a declared major in the College of Humanities
  • Be in their senior year (90 credits or more)
  • Have a minimum 3.5 GPA, cumulative
  • Not have been awarded other university scholarship(s) for the semester(s) in which you are applying
  • Complete the entire application procedure by the March 15th deadline
  • Provide a letter of recommendation by sending it to sherami_jara@byu.edu. Please indicate that you are applying for the Beecroft Scholarship.

Bjarnason   Deadline: March 15, 2014

Have a declared Scandinavian Studies minor or be in a major that allows for a Scandinavian focus.

Requirements:
  • Have a declared Scandinavian Studies minor or be in a major that allows for a Scandinavian focus
  • Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Applicants must complete the entire application procedure by March 15
  • Provide a letter of recommendation. Please email it to sherami_jara@byu.edu and indicate that you are applying for the Bjarnson Scholarship.

Peery   Deadline: March 15, 2014

Overview:

This scholarship is for international students, or students with special financial needs.

Requirements:
  • Be an international student, or a student with special financial needs
  • Have a declared major in the College of Humanities
  • Be registered full-time (12 credit hours or more)
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA, cumulative
  • Scholarship amounts may be adjusted if receiving other University scholarships or awards
  • Complete the entire application procedure by the March 15th deadline
  • Provide a letter of recommendation. Please email it to sherami_jara@byu.edu and indicate that you are applying for the Peery Scholarship.

Teacher Education   Deadline: March 15, 2014

Overview:

Scholarship for those who have a declared teaching major in the College of Humanities.  Scholarship funds are awarded only for the semester in which the student is completing their student teaching experience.

Requirements:
  • Applicants must have a declared teaching major in the College of Humanities
  • Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Scholarship amounts may be adjusted if receiving other University scholarships or awards
  • Complete the entire application procedure by the March 15th deadline
  • Provide a letter of recommendation. Please email it to sherami_jara@byu.edu and indicate that you are applying for the Teacher Education Scholarship.

Humanities+   Deadline: March 15, 2014

Overview:

**NOTE: This scholarship has been spent for the Fall 2014 and Winter 2015 semesters. Please return here to apply in January when the application is open again.

Students must have a declared major in the College of Humanities and commit to completing a Humanities+ experience during the semester of the award.   

Requirements:
  • Student class status--Senior (90 credits or more)
  • Have a declared major in the College of Humanities
  • Be registered full-time (12 credit hours or more) for the awarded semester(s)
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA, cumulative
  • Not have been awarded other University scholarship(s) for the semester(s) in which you are applying
  • Complete the entire application procedure by the March 15th deadline
  • Provide a letter of recommendation. Please email it to sherami_jara@byu.edu and indicate that you are applying for the Humanities+ Scholarship.
  • Submit a follow-up report at the completion of the final scholarship funded semester

Washington Seminar Assistance Grant  

Overview:

This is a $1000 assistance grant for College of Humanities majors who have been accepted, and are committed to completing the Washington Seminar experience.  

Requirements:
  • Applicants must have a declared major or minor in the College of Humanities
  • Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Complete the entire application and submit 30 days prior to the Program start date

Upcoming Scholarships & Fellowships

 

Truman Scholarship:Current freshmen and sophomores interested in pursuing public service careers are invited to come learn how to win $30,000 for graduate and professional school. BYU Deadlines usually in January. National deadlines usually in early February.

American Bar Association Legal Opportunity Scholarships: The American Bar Association offers scholarships of up to $15,000 for students attending law school. Applications will become available in early December 2014, with a deadline of March 2, 2015

Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship: Awards up to $5000 for study abroad. Eligible applicants must be currently receiving a Pell Grant. Apply the semester prior to your planned study abroad. Deadline (for Spring/Summer and Fall Study Abroad): March 4, 2014

James Madison Fellowship: The Madison Foundation funds graduate school for current and future high school teachers of American history or government. 2015 Application available in May 2014

Charles & Lucille King Family Foundation Scholarship: Awards undergraduate scholarships of up to $3,500 per academic year to juniors and seniors majoring in television and film. Applications available September 1, 2014-March 15, 2015. Due no later than March 15th for the following academic year.

J.W. Saxe Memorial Fund: Offers up to $2000 to students taking a no-pay or low-pay public service job or internship during a summer or other term. Applications are accepted and funding is distributed on a rolling basis. Students seeking funding for the summer of 2014 should apply no later than April 1st.

US-UK Fulbright Commission Summer Programs: The US-UK Fulbright Commission funds three summer programs at UK universities for college freshmen and sophomores. Deadline: Late February/early March – depends on the program

Institute of Humane Studies Summer Seminars: The IHS sponsors 12 week-long seminars on libertarian tradition at college campuses throughout the country. Deadline: March 31, 2014

Think Swiss: Think Swiss offers 15 scholarships for a research stay in Switzerland. The scholarship is open to students of all fields. Deadline: January 2015

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant: $1,000 grants for undergraduate study abroad. Deadline: April 1, 2014

Boren Scholarship  

Overview:

Provides up to $20,000 for a full academic year ($8,000 for a summer program, $10,000 for a semester) to U.S. undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages, including but not limited to Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili.

Overview:

Provides up to $5,000 to U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding to pursue academic studies or credit-bearing, career-oriented internships abroad.

*Awardees are eligible to receive a Critical Need Language Award of $8,000.
